EWB-RPI was founded in 2010 by Rensselaer students and has since grown to over 40 active members. Over the past seven years, our student chapter of Engineers Without Borders-USA has been engaging in collaborative work with the community members of Isla Popa II in Panama. Our members focus their efforts in system design for water supply and filtration for the 300 community members of Isla Popa II. After three successful assessment trips and two successful implementation trips, we have finished our water supply project with the Sandubidi community and are now working to improve their accessibility to electricity through solar panels. In Spring 2017, we were also approved for a water project in Sasle, Nicaragua and are currently assessing their needs. Our members contribute to technical design, fundraising, community relations, and chapter administration. All majors are welcome to engage in our transformative work.
