NEW CLASSES

COST: $80.00 for two classes a week, for 13 weeks, $40 for one class once a week, for 13 weeks.

We encourage you to join our many Martial Arts and Dance Clubs. The Martial Arts Clubs cost $75 per semester, and the Dance club Costs $65 per semester for RPI students, non-students $100 per semester. All have professional instruction and training and promote a healthy mental & physical activity to all clubs members.

1. Pilates: A system of movement which are designed to improve physical strength, flexibility, posture and mental awareness. This multi-level class, with hands on instruction, will change the way you move, think and feel. Please bring a mat!!

2. Zumba: Are you ready to party yourself into shape? Forget the workout; let’s just lose ourselves in the music. Classes feature exotic rhythms set to high-energy music beats. Before you know it, you’ll be getting fit and your energy levels will be soaring! It’s easy to do, effective and totally exhilarating.

3. Pi Yo Strength: Is a total-body fitness class designed to whip you into shape from head to toe. It combines the practices of Pilates and yoga to help you build strength, increase flexibility and have a great time doing it. Pi Yo was designed for people who want the mind-body benefits of yoga or Pilate’s workout, but with a higher-energy, higher-sweat class.

4. Tai Chi: Improve flexibility and balance using Tai Chi, a program originally developed for people with arthritis. Learn a 12-movement form to gain better control of your health and improve your quality of life. Wear loose clothing and closed-toe shoes that grip the floor.

5. Boxing Fitness Training:  An excellent way get a great cardio workout. Boxing is considered by many to be one of the best exercises because of its ability to help condition the entire body in one workout. This sport improves the cardiovascular and endurance fitness of its participants by providing a high-intensity, calorie-burning routine that promotes optimal physical fitness.

6. SHAPE: Self-defense class for females, teaching the basic steps in self-defense.  It is encouraged to attend as many classes as you can from the first class in order to gain the full KSA's Knowledge, Skills and Abilities.

7. Midday Yoga: A strong class that creates a total body workout and serves to clear the mind. Gentle awareness reminders and techniques are given to link the connection of the breath to each pose class combines elements of different systems. Expect to lengthen, strengthen and stretch the body and prepare the mind for meditation.

8. Power Yoga: Is a fitness-based Vinyasa practice. An offshoot of Ashtanga Yoga, it has many of the same qualities and benefits, including building internal heat, increased stamina, strength, and flexibility, as well as stress reduction.

9. Body Shaping/Bodybuilding: Enjoy a high-energy workout with fun and lively music. Bodyshaping is a system of strength training and flexibility exercises that combines the best elements from free weights to yoga. Wear indoor athletic shoes and bring a water bottle.

10.  Yoga Toolbox: Yoga is a sophisticated 5,000-year-old system of energy management. Many Yoga principals and techniques are practical and valuable tools for your self-care ”toolbox” that can be used both on and off the Yoga mat. This class offers a rich balance of pranayama (breathwork), asana (physical postures), and meditation to prepare the body and mind for deeper levels of relaxation and self-realization. Intertwined throughout the practice we will also touch on yoga philosophy, Ayurveda, and chanting to enrich and broaden your experience of Yoga. Suitable  for all levels.

11. Meditation: Spend an hour to learn a simple yet effective way to de-stress and revive your energy, or to possibly get yourself 'blissed out' sitting comfortably in a chair. Learn from someone with more than 30 years practicing and teaching meditation to newcomers. This program is free and open to students, faculty and staff.

12. Core Power Yoga: Turn stress into sweat. This signature class strengthens balances and detoxifies your entire body and mind as you move through more challenging postures and connected breath. Set to an energizing playlist, you’ll power up your yoga practice like never before.

13. Cardio Dance & Abs: A high energy fat-burning dancer's abdominal workout that was created to sculpt tight abs,  strong  legs through a unique combo of infectious dance moves and standing abs exercises that will uncover results fast.

14. Kettle Bell Kickboxing: This class redefines the body by combining kickboxing drills with power and strength of kettle bell training, creating a non-impact 60 minute total body scorching class.

15. Jump Rope for Fitness: Gain agility, speed, coordination, and balance; burn fat; and achieve overall fitness by jumping rope. Learn all the fundamental techniques of jumping rope to build a fun and fast workout routine for your entire body. With proper technique, jumping rope is a dynamic, low impact activity.

16. Cardio Burn & Firm: This class spends half the time on the step for a cardio sweat session and the other half toning and firming with weights, cables, mats, balls, and your body weight. You’ll be working on your cardiovascular endurance and improving strength in all major muscle groups.

17. 45-Minute Boot Camp Workout: Burn fat and build muscle with this equipment-free cardio-and-strength circuit from Ken Weichert, master fitness trainer for the U.S. Army and creator of an exclusive boot camp class for Crunch Fitness clubs nationwide. With short-but-intense cardio intervals, full-body strength moves, and an extra dose of abs work, you'll slim down your entire body and tighten your tummy. Do this 10-minute circuit three times in a row for the best 30-minute workout of your life.

Registration for each class is open until the class fills or until three working days before the class begins, whichever comes first. If you miss the registration for this semester we hope you will consider taking this class the next time it is offered. If you need accommodations due to a disability, contact (518)276-2874. Classes are (13 weeks) and all supplies for craft enrichment class are included in the registration fee.

 1. Sewing &Quilting Spring 2018

 

In this 13-week class, students will learn the skills required to make a variety of projects, from tote bags to guilt’s.  All supplies for learning projects are furnished, but students are welcome to bring fabrics of their choice to creating quilts with family old clothing.  Sewing machines will be available for only 10 participants. Basic sewing knowledge is not necessary. 

2. Knitting Spring 2018

 

If you want to jump on the knitting bandwagon, this step by step class is geared for beginners, should start you on your way to a lifetime of knitting. The entire purpose of this very elementary knitting lesson is to teach the basics of casting on, knitting a row, and then casting off. Learn this and you can start knitting any basic article. All supplies for learning projects are furnished.

3. Banking 101 for College Students

     

Choosing your first bank account is an important decision. Unlike that first school ID photo, your first banking relationship could last long after you graduate. Making a smart decision now will mean fewer surprise fees that can add up later. Choose the right savings account, To see how saving small now can pay off big down the road, crunch the numbers with a savings calculator. You’ll find that stashing away money in your college years will make your long-term financial goals far easier to reach than if you wait until your mid-to-late thirties to make saving a focus. The basics of online banking and bill paying covering the difference between push and pull bill pay, security and financial management tools.

 

4. ESL Class

This course is designed to build the oral English skills of non-native speakers of English in order to prepare for academic work in English. This is a beginning listening and speaking course and includes practice in group interaction, public speaking and listening comprehension.
